WPAS offers internships throughout the year. Applicants should be highly motivated, creative and hard-working individuals with an interest in all aspects of arts management. It is required that applicants have previous office experience. In addition, applicants should possess:

Interest/background in music, dance or performance art
-
Strong organizational skills
-
Effective writing and communication skills
Ability to learn quickly, handle multiple tasks, take initiative, and work independently with little supervision
High energy level and ability to work well in deadline and/or pressure situations
Computer literacy
WPAS interns leave our offices with a better understanding of arts management, knowledge of artists in a variety of fields (classical music, world music, dance and performance art), contacts in theaters throughout the D.C. metro area, practical experience and a portfolio of work. The internship is unpaid, however stipends are occasionally granted during the performance year (September - May). Hours required per week vary by department but in general Interns are required to work a minimum of 15 hours/week. Interns are also invited to attend many WPAS performances on a complimentary basis. |

| Duties and Responsibilities: |

The WPAS Development Department seeks interns to provide overall support. Specific responsibilities might include:
Memberships
Assist with data entry (Tessitura database)
Create text for membership renewals, acquisitions, special appeals
Assist with the planning and execution of membership events
Research prospective donors
Special Events
Create informational materials (print and electronic)
Field guest inquiries and RSVPs
Draft correspondence
Assist with event planning and execution
General
Assist with mailings
Projects as assigned

Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Ability to meet deadlines
Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint (preferred)
Some prior experience in an administrative setting preferred

| General Description: |
|
This position provides overall administrative assistance to the education staff in support of the various youth and adult education programs (such as Concerts In Schools, Feder Memorial String Competition, Embassy Adoption Program, Summer Performing Arts Academy, WPAS’ Gospel Choir program). Additional duties include providing assistance to the education staff in preparation for various educational initiatives such as In school residencies, Master classes, Adult and children’s vocal workshops and other projects). |

| Duties and Responsibilities: |
|
Assist in communication with the school administration and teaching community, local artists, organizational partners, choral community, schools and churches.
Assistance with logistic and communication tasks needed in preparation for the weekly choir rehearsals for the gospel choir and at times, the ability to assist with production needs onsite at rehearsals, in preparation for the annual performance and other community events.
Work with the education staff to provide assistance with overall production needs for ongoing educational initiatives schedule.
Work with the education staff to update information on the WPAS website.

| Duties and Responsibilities: |

The WPAS Director of Special Events seeks an intern to provide support in all aspects of the Annual WPAS Gala and Auction which will occur on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Specific responsibilities will include:
-
General
Assist with event planning and execution including participation in brainstorming session on
theme and programmatic elements of the event
Assist with mailings (invitations, thank you’s, etc.)
Field guest inquiries and RSVPs
Create timeline, staff instructions and other day-of contact materials
Serve as an on-site lead giving assistance before, during and after the event

Artist
Work with Programming Department to provide artist services (housing, transportation,
hospitality, etc.) and production needs for headliner
Provide on-site assistance
-
Auction
-
Volunteer Coordination
Solicit and track volunteers
Create informational materials (print and electronic)
Provide training
Work with the WPAS Women’s Committee
