Announcement
Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS) is proud to announce the 39th season of the Concerts in Schools program. This unique program is designed to bring music, dance, theater, and visual arts of the highest quality directly to all schoolchildren for their enjoyment in familiar surroundings. There is no charge to the schools or the children and we urge you to take full advantage of this free educational programming!
Please click here to download your copy of the Event Confirmation Form to submit to WPAS. This is the only way you will receive free in-school events. The Event Confirmation Form allows you to update all teacher contacts and identify best methods for remaining in touch, plus serves as an avenue to list your artist preferences. All forms must be received by November 1, 2004.
Please click here to download the 2004-05 Concerts In Schools brochure to choose the artist that best suits your curriculum and school preferences, listing this selection on the Event Confirmation Form.
How are these performances scheduled into your school?
In late September and early October, WPAS arranges for our various Concerts In Schools artists to call you directly at your school to arrange suitable dates and times for these events. Key teachers will receive confirmation of which artist/group has been assigned to the school to make aware that the artist representative will be contacting the key teacher to finish the scheduling process. NOTE: Artists are on a deadline and need to complete all scheduling before the winter holiday break. All unscheduled schools after January 1, 2005 will be reassigned to other schools.
How long are the performances?
Each time a Concerts in Schools educational performer visits a school, the school is entitled to receive a "back-to-back" concert. A 35-40 minute presentation for grades K-3 immediately followed by a 45-60 minute presentation for grades 4-6.
All cancellations or changes to the assigned schedule must occur no later than 48 hours prior to the performance date. We ask your consideration of the artist's performance schedules by complying with this cancellation policy.
What else can you expect to receive before the concert?
Two weeks prior to the event, key teachers will receive the Performance Guide, which is a resource for teachers plus a color poster with useful information about the upcoming program. We ask that this poster be used as a discussion piece prior to the event.
Following the in-school event, a Concerts In Schools Teacher Evaluation Form will be sent to the key teacher. Please complete the evaluation form and note any comments you or your staff may have about the performance and return it to WPAS. Your comments are important in maintaining the high standards of the program.
Upon completion of the performance, the artists will present a Verification Form to be signed by the key teacher. Please cooperate by verifying the information needed so that the artists will receive payment through WPAS.
We'd like to hear from you! Please return the Event Confirmation Form to identify your free program selections and school information. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Bigley, Youth Education Manager, at (202) 533-1870 or e-mail mbigley@wpas.org.
