|
We are currently not accepting any further applications for Concerts In Schools.

Each year students in the D.C. metropolitan area are invited to journey through music, dance, theater, storytelling, and visual arts. Offered FREE of charge, Concerts In Schools programs have a diverse roster of experienced WPAS teaching artists/ensembles. The WPAS teaching artists present performances which integrate artistic disciplines with other curricular areas, creating educational and interactive experiences for students.

  • Schools in Montgomery or Prince George’s County in Maryland or Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church City or Fairfax County in Virginia that receive Title I funds (e.g. free lunch program)

What is the Concerts In Schools Program?

The WPAS teaching artists conduct performance/demonstrations at participating schools. This model allows for students to learn through an assembly format; the program presents examples of the art form, engages students, and highlights curricular links.

What is a Back-to-Back Performance?

WPAS offers the back-to-back performance/demonstration format which covers two (2) performances on-site at a school within 3.0 hour time frames. This format allows the school to include majority of the students in the experience.

For Example:

The first event is for younger grade levels; the second event is designed for upper grade levels. Each performance can be scheduled for 30mins (minimum) up to 1 hour (maximum). Artists/ensembles may opt to increase the length of a specific program after consultation with teacher.

What is a workshop based program?

WPAS provides in-school workshops in the visual arts. These workshops are for smaller groups of students.

  • Maximum of 30 students per class

  • Two (2) 1.5-hour back-to-back workshops, or One (1) 2.0-3.0-hour workshop
