Program Information

Stravinsky was unable to resist his instinct to recompose and transform everything musical that came his way. Out of snippets, tunes, forms, and gestures, borrowed from the worlds of jazz, tango, waltz, ragtime, marches, and even Lutheran chorales, Stravinsky created one of the 20th-century’s greatest masterpieces—The Soldier’s Tale.

What Makes It Great? © is presented in partnership with The Smithsonian Associates and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
