More Than Notes:

More Than Notes concert preview at 6:45pm, led by Marilyn Cooley

More Than Notes concert previews are an exciting way to enhance your enjoyment and understanding of WPAS performances. This season, lecturers Ben Roe and WETA’s Marilyn Cooley will offer insights and comparisons between the performing artists in each of the following genres—Great Orchestras, Pianists, Vocalists, and Strings—in addition to further illuminating the written program notes.

More Than Notes concert previews are generously made possible by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Program:

Bernstein         Symphony No. 2, "The Age of Anxiety"
Tchaikovsky     Symphony No. 6, "Pathetique"

Artist Information:

The Los Angeles Philharmonic set the classical world abuzz when it selected the now 28-year-old conductor Gustavo Dudamel as its new music director, virtually hand-picked by outgoing maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen. Following wildly successful concerts last season with the Israel Philharmonic and his own Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, Dudamel returns for his highly anticipated debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
